Distinguished CHEST Educators

The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) is pleased to announce the 2025 Distinguished CHEST Educators (DCEs). These individuals have shown great commitment, involvement, and leadership in CHEST education programs and activities.

DCE recipients represent the top 3% of CHEST’s international faculty and are recognized for their achievements and long-term contributions to the design and delivery of CHEST education. DCEs are selected on a yearly basis, based on the past 3 years of CHEST educational activities. It is a 1-year designation and can be received multiple times.

This year’s elite group of 222 recipients include 32 individuals who are receiving the designation for the first time.

Scientific abstract awards

Alfred Soffer Research Award

Presented abstracts are judged by session moderators, and two recipients are selected by the Scientific Presentations and Awards Committee judges for their outstanding original scientific research. Finalists are evaluated based on the quality of their written abstract and oral presentation. This award is named in honor of Alfred Soffer, MD, Master FCCP, who was Editor in Chief of the journal CHEST® from 1968 to 1993 and Executive Director of CHEST from 1969 to 1992.

Young Investigator Research Award

Presenters who are enrolled in a training or fellowship program or who have completed a fellowship program within five years prior to CHEST Annual Meeting are eligible for the Young Investigator Award. Finalists are evaluated based on the quality of their written abstract and oral presentation. Two recipients are selected by the Scientific Presentations and Awards Committee judges for their outstanding original scientific research.

Top Rapid-Fire Scientific Abstract Award

Awards are granted to two presenters from all the rapid-fire sessions at the CHEST Annual Meeting for outstanding original scientific research and presentation.

Top Scientific Abstract Poster Award

Awards are granted to presenters from all the abstract poster sessions at the CHEST Annual Meeting for outstanding original scientific research and presentation.

Top Case Report Award

Awards are granted to one presenter in each oral case report session at the CHEST Annual Meeting for an outstanding case report and presentation.

Top Rapid-Fire Case Report Award

One winner is selected from each rapid-fire case report session at the CHEST Annual Meeting for an outstanding case report and presentation.
