A MESSAGE FROM OUR 2023 PRESIDENT AND CEO/EVP
The past year has been a period of remarkable progress and meaningful education. As our organization approaches its 90th year, we remain focused on the mission and fully committed to improving patient care.
We are thrilled to share with you this annual report, which showcases the breadth of work we undertook in 2023.
A few things you’ll see in the report: Our annual meeting was in Hawaiʻi, which drew nearly 6,000 medical professionals, making it the second-highest attendance for an in-person CHEST Annual Meeting. We launched two new open-access journals—CHEST® Critical Care and CHEST® Pulmonary—and both have exceeded submission estimates. Our educational offerings achieved Accreditation with Commendation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and our Simulation Education Program earned reaccreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
We have continued our commitment to advancing best practices, including a focus on disparities in severe asthma, advancing biomarker testing, diagnosing sepsis, lung cancer interventions, and other pulmonary and critical care medicine essentials, all leading to crucial advancements in respiratory health. To best support the future of chest medicine, we recently realigned our philanthropic focus around four pillars: clinical research, community impact, support of the profession, and dedication to education.
We hope you find value in this review of 2023 and are as inspired as we are by all that has been accomplished. We encourage you to take the time to explore the linked content throughout the report that showcases the work of your association and colleagues. We look forward to what’s ahead, and we thank you for being a member of our global community and sharing the commitment to this vital cause.
