Highlights from the journal CHEST^®, December 2023

• Critical Care
  Evaluating pediatric intensive care admissions in the Baltimore area between 2016 and 2019, Indicators of Neighborhood-Level Socioeconomic Position and Pediatric Critical Illness finds admission rates dropped by 9% for every $10,000 increase in median household income.   A cross-sectional analysis, Race-Specific Spirometry Equations Do Not Improve Models of Dyspnea and Quantitative Chest CT Phenotypes, finds race-neutral/race-free reference equations may improve pulmonary disease diagnoses and treatment in populations highly vulnerable to lung disease. • Pulmonary Vascular
  Antithrombotic Therapy in Arterial Thrombosis and Thromboembolism in COVID-19 is the latest guideline from the American College of Chest Physicians and includes 11 recommendations for clinical practice. Read the key recommendations here. 
• Thoracic Oncology
  Using a survey of 2,049 respondents, original research, Emotional Distress, Anxiety, and General Health Status in Patients With Newly Identified Small Pulmonary Nodules, showed that greater distress was associated with a variety of factors, including larger nodule size, Black race, Hispanic ethnicity and more.
